IDEA: In 1946, Viola Desmond was the first Black woman to fight segregation in court, after a segregated cinema incident in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. On the other side of the border, Rosa Parks said "No..." to segregation (injustice, bullying in school, on a bus or anywhere) by not giving up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama, sparking a citywide bus boycott―proving the Promethean theme that "to check power is honorable and on occasion, even necessary."
W.E.B. DuBois, along with Rosa Parks became one of the founders of the NAACP―and quoted: “Children learn more from what you are than what you teach.” These brave freedom fighters were inspired by their African American heritage; get inspired yourself by learning more about them and their stories.
